I’m sure we can all say that, as we look back over the past 12 months – we have seen births, deaths, graduations, joys and sorrows. For Tom and Alison, it has been a year that has swung from intense excitement to despair, then to joy and celebration – thanks to your support in keeping our exceptional staff here at Family Resource Center available to kids and families bearing the scars of abuse.

April, 2013:  Alison writes: “I don’t know if I can go ahead with the adoption. My days are spent holding this little girl so she won’t harm herself, and being scared to death.”

In October, 2012, Alison and her husband, Tom, opened their hearts and home to two little girls who were otherwise destined for the uncertain life of foster care. What they did not know was that Alexis, the older child, had been sexually and physically abused since she was two years old and was acting out in unspeakable and violent ways. Nothing could have prepared them for that experience. And, quite frankly, they had a hard time getting the help they needed.

I’ve felt that sense of desperation, and maybe you have, too – trying to make an appointment, needing some kind of help – yet again and again being put on hold or a waiting list, or told it will be three months to get the care we need. Well, at Family Resource Center we can’t let that happen to people who need help desperately. They need us right now!
