Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals Awards $25,000 to Support PathBuilders Program

Family Resource Center has announced that it has received a $25,000 grant from Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals to support introducing its PathBuilders Program into the Spanish Lake community. PathBuilders is an innovative approach to breaking the cycle of chronic child abuse. When a family is identified as being at risk for abuse, the program combines highly effective therapies with wrap around services to reduce environmental risk factors such as safety, shelter, unemployment, and lack of parenting skills. Many of these families also lack traditional safety networks such as family and friends, which adds to the stress leading to child abuse. Focusing PathBuilders on a smaller geographic area such as Spanish Lake makes it more feasible to develop the social supports (neighbors, churches, community organizations) that can help mitigate crises.

Alan Washington, a PathBuilders Coach, knows firsthand the value and impact of the program. He meets weekly with a young mother, a victim of domestic violence, who saw her two children scarred by abuse. Now with the help of Alan and his PathBuilders team of therapists, coaches, and resource specialists, she has tapped into numerous resources including therapy for herself and her children, special services for her autistic son, housing, a job, assistance with budgeting, and parenting classes. “We work as a team,” Alan says. “Recently this mother was offered a promotion that required the use of a car, so we reached out to our partners in the community to locate a used vehicle. With the help of our team and our community resources, this family is stable and self-supporting now, and we are confident they will soon be able to sustain that progress.”

Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals’ uses its charitable funding to build a healthier world, particularly in the communities in which its employees live and work.
