History

Family Resource Center started as a pilot project at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1974. It is now one of Missouri’s largest family counseling agencies, specializing in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect and family violence.

Developed with over 40 years of experience in the field, Family Resource Center’s programs served greater than 7,400 client children and family members during 2015. Much of the agency’s work is provided in the home and is targeted at our community’s highest risk families: those identified as a result of over 68,000 reported incidents (involving more than 100,000 children) received each year by the Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline.

Since many at-risk children are never identified or reported to the hotline, Family Resource Center has focused its newest programs on prevention work, often provided through schools, neighborhood partnerships and collaborations with other agencies. These complement and reinforce traditional programs allowing us to reach an ever larger population of families who can benefit from our specialized mission.
