Family Resource Center’s mission is to prevent and treat all forms of child abuse and neglect by strengthening families through family-centered therapeutic, educational and support services. Through our mission, Family Resource Center:
- Strives to partner with other child welfare, behavioral health, and school and community service providers.
- Continually creates and implements new programs targeted at the needs of children and families.
- Treats clients, families, and employees with dignity and respect.
History
Family Resource Center started as a pilot project at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1974. It is now one of Missouri’s largest family counseling agencies, specializing in the prevention and treatment of child abuse.
Developed with more than 32 years of experience in this specialized field, Family Resource Center's programs served nearly 10,000 client children and parents during 2006. Much of the agency's work is provided in the home and is targeted at our community's highest risk families: those identified as a result of 53,300 official child abuse/neglect reports (involving over 85,000 children), which are received each year by the Missouri Child Abuse Hotline.
Since many children at risk are never identified or reported to the hotline, Family Resource Center has focused its newest programs on prevention work, often provided through schools, neighborhood partnerships and collaborations with other agencies. These complement and reinforce traditional programs allowing us to reach an ever larger population of children and parents who can benefit from our specialized mission.
