Family Resource Center Receives Grant from the Fox Family Foundation
Funds to be used to strengthen Parents Anonymous® child abuse prevention program

St. Louis, MO – Family Resource Center (FRC), a St. Louis-based non-profit dedicated to preventing and treating child abuse, is pleased to announce the Fox Family Foundation’s recent grant of $14,000 to support the agency’s Parents Anonymous® Program, which aims to strengthen families and prevent child abuse by building parental confidence.

The Parents Anonymous® program helps prevent child abuse by building parental self-esteem, fostering healthy parent-child relationships, and promoting problem-solving within families. Parents build on their strengths, increase their ability to deal with stress, and expand their community support networks. Weekly support sessions for parents and primary caregivers are augmented by separate supervised meetings for children and youth.

Currently, FRC’s Family Support Council (FSC) Program manages 10 Parents Anonymous® groups in the St. Louis Metro area. The Fox Family Foundation’s grant enables the agency to introduce four additional groups, two for caregivers and two for youth, in Franklin, St. Charles, and St. Louis counties and St. Louis City.

"We are extremely grateful for the Fox Family Foundation’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of families and kids in the St. Louis community,” says FSC Program Manager Lora Gulley. “Their partnership with FRC allows us to focus on ‘high need’ areas of the St. Louis Metro region and empower more parents to become confident and nurturing caregivers.”

Parents Anonymous® is an internationally recognized model that utilizes weekly support groups to create a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment where parents and primary caregivers make life long-changes for themselves and their families. The companion Children and Youth Program encourages kids, 18-years-old and younger, to learn from one another and focus on reaching their full potential at home, at school, and in their communities.
